02Sep Here comes a new Challenger!
A new competitor has joined the Browser wars: Google’s Chrome browser was released today. It’s based on webkit and mozilla, and the main goal was to provide a stable browser with a simple user interface.
I already downloaded & tested it for a while, it is indeed fast and it hasn’t crashed so far. The User Interface is clean and simple, and it even imported all my firefox stored passwords and bookmarks. When you open a new tab, it shows thumbnails for recent bookmarks or the sites you visit the most, it is a nice touch but they kinda stole the idea from opera
It also includes a private browsing mode which google calls “Incognito”. And it features the “Omnibox” which is the url bar all browsers have, but it also does google search (or other search engine searches which can be customized). I didnt like this feature though, I prefer my url bar to be one, and my search bar to be another one.
In general, I think it’s quite a good browser, but I still prefer my good old firefox, mainly because of the extensions.

You too were in exams last week?
Also, it’s a BETA so it doesn’t have extensions, yet. I tried it, but I still like FF better, that might change if Google Chrome uses less RAM than FF does though…

I’ve actually been using Chrome since about a day or two after it came out. Loads faster than Firefox for me, and loads some pages about 15x as fast. The WoW Forums took me about 30 seconds to load in FF3, and takes on average >1 second with Chrome, and since I tend to troll on the WoW forums at least half the time I’m on the web, I switched to Chrome for the most part.
PS: You forgot to mention that you can increase the size of post boxes in Chrome, just like Safari, or Opera, or whatever one it was that did that.
